Why Mediation Works

Conflict happens. When individuals cannot agree, relationships suffer. When co-workers won’t cooperate, productivity plummets. When strife occurs in the community, progress stalls. Mediation enables parties to enter a dialogue that is focused and productive. Mediation provides a process for positive change by diffusing emotions and exploring options in order to resolve conflict.

Uses of Mediation

Mediation works to ease decision-making, planning, and/or conflict resolutions in many different types of organizations from the family to the community group to the workplace.

Types of discussions that lend themselves to mediation include:

Conflict Resolution

When disagreements bring about major stress and seemingly irreconcilable differences, mediation helps parties understand each other’s perspectives, thus making it easier to decide how to work and/or live more productively in the future.  Mediation may assist in the following circumstances:

    Small Claims Court cases – about matters such as contract disputes
    Business/customer differences – between roofer/home owner, landlord/tenant or merchant/customer as examples
    Workplace issues – between co-workers, employee and supervisor or issues among or within work teams
    Employee conflicts – between supervisors and employees, with inter- and intra-departmental conflicts, or with employee harassment charges
    Crime victim/offender dialogues
    Divorce and parenting plans
